Nachos for lunch in Yaralla

On a rainy day this week, a few of the Yaralla program’s senior students took a short break from their coursework and got into the kitchen, under the guidance of the program’s School Learning Support Officers.

The three students collaborated to dice, chop, saute, season and grill their way through a recipe for chicken nachos. All students followed strict food safety and hygiene protocols and even proposed a couple of small enhancements to the recipe.

Their culinary efforts were then shared with all of the students and staff of Yaralla, in our first program meal together this school year. The lesson was an important opportunity for our senior students to develop their independent living skills and for all students to practise conversation and social skills while sharing a meal together.

There was much chatter and laughter and sincere compliments to the talented chefs on the delicious meal!
