The library team is excited to announce a new literacy program has begun at Rivendell School.  Each day at 12:30pm, staff and students spend 15 minutes away from their computers and their desks to immerse themselves in the world of literature.

The aim of the program is to build concentration, literacy skills and empathy.  Research suggests reading for just 15 minutes every day has a significant impact on students’ academic success and overall wellbeing.  The 2013 journal article Short- and Long- Term Effects of a Novel on Connectivity in the Brain found reading a fictional novel produced both short and long term positive gains in brain connectivity, language and comprehension.

Through reading a fictional novel, we have the opportunity to transport ourselves into another world and connect with people we have never met.  In a time where physical travel is limited, we are thankful to experience the world through the eyes of authors.
