Rivendell School was fortunate to receive a generous donation, from Bunnings, towards the Sulman, Lawson and Paterson gardens. The donation included vegetable and herb seedlings, succulents, cow and chicken manure, terracotta pots, as well as many other useful garden supplies.
After receiving some great advice from the friendly garden expert, Sulman students helped prepare our garden beds by loosening the old soil, digging through chicken and cow manure, as well as mushroom compost and worm castings. The beds were then left for a couple of days to settle before planting and topping with sugar cane mulch.
Whilst working in the garden, students took the opportunity to rejuvenate our worm farm with fresh worms and coir bedding.
The photo below shows the freshly planted seedlings, which include lettuce, spinach, peas, cabbage, Brussel sprouts, onions, broccoli, cucumbers, chives, dill, thyme and mint.
We are looking forward to watching our seedlings grow, and can’t wait till harvest time when we can cook up some delicious meals to share with the rest of the school.
Thanks again to the Bunnings team for their generous donation!
