In the Learning Centre science class this term, our budding scientists are currently exploring the Chemical World, in particular, chemical reactions. Using the scientific method, the students were asked to predict and investigate what would happen when yeast (the catalyst) is added to a mixture of Hydrogen Peroxide (the compound) and dish soap. The experiment resulted in an “elephant sized” chemical change where a new expanding foamy concoction was formed resembling toothpaste.
The science students all enjoyed working in groups and were very enthusiastic about the chemical reaction “EXPLOSION!”. It was a great lesson and lots of fun was had by all!
