Last week students took part in a whole school Activity Day which aimed to bring students from across Rivendell School together to promote teamwork, self-expression, cohesiveness and engagement. Students took part in a diverse range of activities throughout the day, which were developed to cater for all students’ interests and abilities.
Some of the day’s activities included:
Drama activities – students worked collaboratively to represent everyday objects and express themselves using their bodies
Abstract collaging – students used old magazines and various images to creatively reflect the themes ‘Spectacular Skylines’, ‘Futuristic Faces’ and ‘Creative Creatures’
Bridge building – students were given specific resources (40 paddle pop sticks, rubber bands, pipe cleaners, paper and masking tape) and were challenged to construct a free-standing bridge that could support a 1.25kg weight
“Minute to Win It” – students worked together to compete in a series of challenges such as ‘water pong’ and the ‘Oreo challenge’
Ping pong tennis – Similar to regular table tennis however students compete against each other in teams, standing and with a full size tennis net
Giant Jenga – Students had the opportunity to test their patience and motor dexterity skills at the classic (yet giant!) game
The day was full of enjoyment and laughter, as well as some real skill. Staff were impressed by the teamwork, communication and positive attitude demonstrated by all the students who participated.
