It a Rivendell School tradition for program to come together a few times each year to share the bounty of their garden harvest. Each program provides a dish or two designed and whipped up by the students, with at least a portion or flavouring added from their garden.
This week, the whole school came together with the health team to enjoy a range of comfort foods from pumpkin soup with buttered bread sticks, to lasagne, risotto, pastries and a range of salads.
The act of eating together in the same space with food we have prepared and cooked ourselves is a strong unifier that builds a place of community. What seems like a very simple act actually provides much opportunity for the use of social skills, communication strategies and even simple exposure to larger groups.
….and of course, it fills our bellies with yummy delights too!!
