Rivendell students celebrate diversity

This term in the Rivendell Learning Centre, students have been learning about diversity in Australian society. In this week’s whole school assembly Lawson students reflected on the history of the Sydney Mardi Gras, and how difference and diversity has come to be celebrated on this annual event.

Rivendell students enjoyed learning about the history of the rainbow flag, and the meaning behind each of the seven colours on the flag. The rainbow flag has, for many years, been a symbol which represents people’s difference and diversity.

This Saturday 3rd March, the city of Sydney will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the first Mardi Gras march. This Saturday is also the 30th anniversary of the inclusion of a First Nations float in the Mardi Gras parade.
