Lawson students have been working hard to prepare for spring. We have been building pest-proof structures, weeding and planting seeds.

We are so excited about the opportunity to enter the Sydney Royal Easter Show giant pumpkin competition and planted our seeds this week in preparation.

Students wondered “how long does it take to grow a giant pumpkin?” and google told us 160 days. Students then asked “how many days to Easter?” and google told us 167 days! We have all decided this remarkable timing is a sure sign that Rivendell School will take out the grand prize!!

In the gardening workshop this week, students used old tyres as garden beds to plant some corn. We also planted watermelon and a native lemon myrtle to add to our collection of native plants. We hope to grow more bush- tucker in the future.

Unfortunately, the Lawson garden has a few four legged friends who like to come and visit. The students have been working hard to build pest proof netting. Last term we created structures using plumbing pipe and bird net. Yesterday, we collected bamboo from the school grounds and made tee-pees to cover the newly planted corn.

We are excited to see our plants finally growing with the new protection.
