In the last half of 2016, a number of our students worked together to initiate a Rivendell School Student vs Staff Basketball match. It was incredibly successful and both students and staff were keen to continue it on as a termly tradition.
At lunchtime today, the whole school met around the basketball court as part of the team or as supporters. The school radio workshop team created a playlist for the occasion and were our DJs for the match.
To the sound of Queen’s We Will Rock You the game began. It was a very passionate match with both sides eager to take the mantel as the Term 1 champions. By half time, the Staff team were head. But just. The Students regrouped, a few subbed. Strategies were discussed.
In the third quarter, disaster struck with our first on court injury (ICE was applied and all was okay). A foul was awarded against the Staff and the game resumed. By the end of the quarter, the teams were head to head.
More substitutions occurred during the third and fourth quarter. The game resumed. Somehow the Student team found their second wind and pulled out a few moves. They found the basket again and again. They moved into the lead, winning the championship! What an amazing game!
Congratulations to both our Student and Staff Teams for a great match.
