On the evening of 21st March, 2017, one of the oldest and tallest trees at Rivendell School was struck by lightning!
The lightning struck the tree at the waterfront of the school, near the boathouse – much to the fright of the staff and students who were still on the grounds!
The staff and students are saddened by the damage done to the beautiful tree, which was over 110 years old and estimated to be about ten stories high. Debris was scattered along the front lawn and the road!
Unfortunately, due to the damage caused by the lightning, the tree needed to be removed by arborists. Lawson were on the scene the morning after, with cameras on hand, to catch all the action. Have a look at the historical photo from 1907, as well as the awesome photos taken by the Lawson students.
