On Wednesday 15 March two staff members attended the quarterly TVET Career Advisors Meeting, this term held at St Leonards Campus.
TVET (which stands for TAFE-delivered Vocational Education and Training) offers a wide variety of courses for Years 11 and 12 students. These 12 to 24 month courses allow students to study job-focused subjects while still at school. Some courses are certificate level, whilst others end with a Certificate of Attainment. These courses are also a fantastic way to get some “real-world” work experience whilst providing a stepping stone into further education.
On this day, careers advisors from the local Sydney area were able to tour the state of the art facilities available at St Leonards TAFE campus. All participants of the tour commented on how impressive the faculties visited were. Did you know the St Leonards campus has a functioning salon for their Hair and Beauty students? You can even book yourself in for an appointment! And the Screen and Media students have access to several, fully functioning studios and edit suites – which we were told are the best in the state! The Human Services (Nursing) facilities were outstanding.
If students are not sure whether a TVET or TAFE course is the best option for them, they can try one of TAFE’s many Taster Courses. These short courses are a fun way to give students a little “taste” of what a larger TAFE course may involve, and are very popular amongst the students at Rivendell. We will notify stage 6 students of these courses when offered throughout the year.
